Our press-fit connectors and pins help eliminate costly soldering operations and the damaging effects of direct press-fit components, offering robust solutions such as compliant pin connectors and press-fit contacts that deliver dependable performance.
As the industry pioneer, Autosplice offers Press-fit solutions that provide our customers with solderless, internally powerful, gas-tight connections. Press-fit (Compliant) Technology is available in a large variety of sizes, types, and features, and is compatible with high-speed automation.
Press-fit connection relies on normal force, just like a contact system, unlike a soldered connection, which relies on cohesive and adhesive strength of the solder joint. Press-fit terminals are assembled onto the PCB via high-speed insertion machines.
The “eye-of-the-needle” approach has been proven to provide the most reliable technology for optimizing both initial and ongoing retention force. The spring-like design used in eye-of-the-needle configurations provides intimate, long-term contact force against the barrel of the hole with precise compatibility for a plated-through-hole (PTH) hole diameter of 0.60±0.05mm.
All of Autosplice’s compliant pins, blades, and sockets are provided in continuously reeled formats as either individual or multiple-position connector components for insertion by high-speed automatic machines.
The all-new 0.4mm EON press-fit zone is designed to work with the now industry-standard plated-through-hole size of 0.60±0.05mm. The press-fit zone achieves optimum retention strength at each end of the PTH size range by employing a combination of elastic and plastic deformation, which is biased towards the former at the lower end of the PTH size range, and towards the latter at the higher end of the PTH size range. At no point is the elongation allowed to exceed the material limit, to eliminate the likelihood of micro-crack formation or thermal stress that could compromise long-term connection integrity.
Autosplice has elected to standardize the press-fit material to the high-performance CuNiSi (C19010), but will offer CuSn4 and CuSn6 if required. Additionally, the terminal will be offered in standard and reduced tin plating. The latter is especially relevant in high-density terminal applications to reduce the likelihood of tin whiskering.
